Informe de la 49a reunión del Consejo Ejecutivo del IAI

This report details the proceedings and recommendations of the 49th meeting of the Executive Council (EC) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), held via videoconference on August 19, 2020.

• The Executive Council adopted four primary recommendations to be submitted to the Conference of the Parties (CoP-28), which include the approval of the IAI's Scientific Agenda, the Auditors' Report, the Financial Status Report, and the operating budget and country contributions for fiscal year 2020-2021, as well as a preliminary request for 2021-2023.
• The IAI Executive Directorate reported that while no budget increases were requested for the 2020-2021 fiscal year due to the economic and social challenges facing member parties, the current financial situation is unsustainable and is hindering the implementation of the work plan established at CoP-28.
• The COVID-19 pandemic prevented the organization of a planned meeting in October 2020 involving Latin American and Caribbean development banks, funding mechanisms, national funding bodies, and donors, which was intended to establish a flexible financing mechanism for the Americas.
• The United States representative proposed two decisions for the Conference of the Parties: one to remove the requirement for an annual performance evaluation of the IAI Executive Director, and another to implement a reporting mechanism for staff to communicate with the Executive Council.
