Decisiones y acciones

This document records the decisions and actions taken during the 42nd Meeting of the Executive Council (CE) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), held on June 17, 2016, in Santiago, Chile.

• The Executive Council (CE) established a leadership board consisting of Maria Uhle (USA) as president, Fernando Méndez Gaona (Paraguay) as first vice president, and Gladys Santis (Chile) as second vice president.
• The CE directed the SAC, SPAC, and Executive Directorate to evaluate the budget, effort, and time required for specific dissemination products, including an anniversary book and a white paper featuring chapters on Central America and the 1.5-degree limit.
• The CE decided that representatives should identify national responses to the 1.5-degree limit proposed by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) for the next Conference of Parties (CoP), aiming for a regional vision that includes social actors' perspectives on risk and adaptation.
• A selection process for a new Executive Director was outlined, requiring the new director to assume office by CoP 25. The process includes a call for applications from July to October, evaluation from October to January, and a special CoP in early February. The CE also intends to amend the IAI Creation Agreement to extend the Executive Director's term to 4 years.
• The Commission for Country Participation, composed of Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay, was tasked with working with the Executive Directorate to create a case-by-case action plan for countries not currently committed to the IAI, with collaboration from Panama.
