This briefing document records the decisions and actions taken during the 42nd Meeting of the IAI Executive Council held in Santiago, Chile, on 17 June 2016. The meeting focused on administrative governance, the selection process for a new Executive Director, and the development of regional climate-related dissemination products.

• The Executive Council (EC) established a timeline and process for selecting a new Executive Director to be in place by CoP 25. The process includes sending letters to existing candidates and Terms of Reference (ToR) by the end of June, a call for applicants from July to October, assessment from October to January, and a special CoP in early February. The call for applicants is open to all, meaning candidates do not need to be nominated by a CoP member.
• The EC is initiating a process to amend the Agreement Establishing the IAI to extend the appointment term of the Director to 4 years and to correct minor linguistic inconsistencies.
• The EC directed the SAC, SPAC, and the Directorate to identify budget and time requirements for dissemination products, specifically mentioning an Anniversary book, a white book containing a chapter on the 1.5 degree limit, and a chapter on Central America. To support the latter, the EC decided to contact Guatemala to request the organization of a workshop.
• For the next CoP, country representatives are tasked with identifying national responses to the 1.5-degree limit proposed by the UN Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC). This effort, developed with the SAC and SPAC, aims to create a regional view that incorporates stakeholder perspectives on risk and adaptation.
• The EC charged the Member Country Engagement Committee, consisting of Argentina, Chile, and Paraguay, to collaborate with the Directorate and Panama to create an action plan for countries that are not currently engaged on a case-by-case basis.
