Decisions and actions

This briefing outlines the decisions and actions taken during the 40th Meeting of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Executive Council held in Lima, Peru, on 26 June 2015.

• The Executive Council (EC) established a Selection Committee consisting of Argentina (chair), Brazil, Canada, Peru, and USA to manage the IAI Director election process. This process includes extending the current Executive Director's contract by 6 months to facilitate the hiring procedure and approval by CoP 24, with the Selection Committee tasked to propose Terms and Reference and a timetable in September, followed by an international call for nominations.
• The EC approved several administrative and strategic actions, including the creation of a committee to address member country participation in the IAI, composed of Argentina, Canada, Chile (as Chair), and Paraguay. Additionally, Canada offered to draft the terms of reference for a working group on open science.
• The EC directed the IAI Directorate to notify the Implementation Committee for the Tripartite Structure of the IAI that the Host Country Agreement for the Science Development Office in Brazil would be ready for review soon. The EC also decided to communicate to Future Earth its desire to participate in the program based on equitable association between regional and global entities and flexibility for future design.
