This document is a list of action items from the 26th Meeting of the Executive Council (EC) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on June 17-18, 2008. It details administrative decisions, recommendations for the Conference of Parties (CoP), and strategic initiatives regarding capacity building and institutional governance.

• The Executive Council (EC) supported a proposal from the Executive Director to create a joint program with SCOPE and UNESCO. This program focuses on developing interdisciplinary and intersectoral capacities for government departments and scientists involved in global change.
• The EC recommended that the Conference of Parties (CoP) send a formal letter to the Brazilian Ministry of Science and Technology and the Executive Directorate, with copies to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Director of INPE. The purpose is to acknowledge Brazil's support for the IAI and support negotiations regarding the headquarters of the Executive Directorate and contracts for Brazilian personnel.
• The EC requested that IAI member countries in the Caribbean and the Newsletter identify contacts and institutions in non-member Caribbean countries to distribute IAI information and magazines. Jamaica specifically committed to identifying contacts within CARICOM countries.
• The EC established a commission to recommend candidates for the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC), consisting of representatives from Brazil, Cuba, USA, Mexico, Venezuela, the Scientific Officer, local scientist Carolina Vera, and the former president of the SAC. The resulting list of candidates submitted to the CoP included Telma Castro, Luis Mata, Walter Baethgen, and Frank Muller-Karger.
• Several governance and administrative recommendations were made to the CoP, including a complete review of the Regulations of the EC and CoP, the nomination of volunteers for the Standing Committee on Rules and Procedures, and a requirement that CoP meeting invitations be sent five months in advance with a list of main topics.
