22ª Reunión del Consejo Ejecutivo del IAI

This document records the decisions and action items from the 22nd Meeting of the Executive Council (EC) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), held in Porlamar, Venezuela, on May 22-23, 2006. The meeting focused on administrative appointments, the development of a strategic plan, and the management of research projects and funding.

• The Executive Council (EC) appointed several members to internal bodies: Vanessa Richardson (USA), Louis Grittani (Canada), and Paulo de Oliveira (Brazil) joined the FAC; Louis Brown (USA) joined the Standing Committee on Rules and Procedures; and Carlos Ereño (Argentina), Bárbara Garea (Cuba), and Margaret Leinen (USA) were appointed to the Ad Hoc Committee.
• To create the IAI Strategic Plan, the Executive Director will request a brief document from member countries outlining their vision and strategy for the scientific agenda. This input, combined with discussions from CE 22 and CoP 13, will be used by the Executive Director and the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) to draft a preliminary proposal.
• The SAC provided several recommendations to the EC, including the implementation of international protocols for informed consent when human subjects are involved in research, the use of remaining CRN II funds to fill research gaps, and the initiation of a strategic planning process to review the scientific agenda.
• The EC established a mediation process involving the IAI Executive Director and a representative from Mexico to resolve non-compliance issues regarding the CRN I project with CICESE, ensuring that the solution does not harm IAI's assets or the participating institutions.
• The EC approved the Financial State Audit Report as of June 30, 2005, and the Budget Request for Fiscal Year 2006-2007, which will be submitted to the CoP.
