22nd Meeting of the IAI Executive Council Action List

The 22nd Meeting of the IAI Executive Council, held in Porlamar, Venezuela, on May 22-23, 2006, focused on administrative appointments, the development of a Strategic Plan, and the resolution of project compliance issues.

• The Executive Council (EC) appointed new members to several bodies: Vanessa Richardson (USA), Louis Grittani (Canada), and Paulo de Oliveira (Brazil) to the FAC; Louis Brown (USA) to the Standing Committee on Rules and Procedures; and Carlos Ereño (Argentina), Bárbara Garea (Cuba), and Margaret Leinen (USA) to the Committee Ad Hoc.
• The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) provided four recommendations to the CE: implementing international protocols for informed consent and human subjects in research, prioritizing themes 2 and 4 of the scientific agenda for the 10th committee member election, using remaining CRN II funds for uncovered thematic areas, and starting a strategic planning process to review the science agenda.
• To create the IAI Strategic Plan, the IAI Director will request member countries to provide a brief document outlining their vision and strategy regarding the science agenda within two weeks of the request.
• The EC established a group consisting of Lou Brown (SCRP), Venezuela, and Argentina to analyze Project Suspension and Termination Rules for later address at the CoP meeting.
• The EC addressed specific country and project issues, including a mediation process involving the IAI Director and Mexico to resolve non-compliance in a CRN I project with CICESE, and an approval of Cuba's request to ensure available resources for SAC-recommended and EC-approved projects involving Cuba.
