This document is an action list from the Tenth Meeting of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Executive Council, held on December 2-3, 1999, in Caracas, Venezuela. • The Executive Council (EC) approved funding for 11 projects under the Program to Expand Scientific Capacity in the Americas (PESCA) that were ranked 4 (very good) or above. These projects cover a range of themes including climate variability, ecosystem functioning, and infectious diseases in countries such as Cuba, Jamaica, Peru, Ecuador, Uruguay, Venezuela, and Chile.
• The EC approved a strategy plan and recommendations from the Fundraising Working Group, led by Robert Corell, aimed at increasing the IAI's funding base. Additionally, the EC approved the Financial Statement and Independent Auditors’ Report for the 1998/1999 Fiscal Year.
• The EC initiated several strategic and administrative actions, including requesting the IAI Director to prepare terms of reference for an External Review Committee for 2002 and to work with the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) on a "Plan for the Future Strategy of the IAI".
• The EC approved the development of a proposal for the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) to establish Data and Information Systems (DIS) nodes in every IAI member country to support capacity building and a uniform data system in Latin America.
• Two new initiatives were approved: a Regional Training Course on Climate Variability and Extreme Events for Central America and the Caribbean, and the 2001 Open Meeting of the Human Dimensions Community in Brazil.
