Aprobada Conferencia de las Partes (CoP) del IAI Octava reunión

This document records the decisions made during the eighth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), held in Panama City, Panama, on July 19-20, 2001.

• The CoP established a Selection Committee to choose the IAI Executive Director, consisting of representatives from Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, the USA, Venezuela, and the future president of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC). The CoP also approved the selection process proposal for this role.
• The CoP rescheduled its next meeting to February/March 2002, moving it forward from June/July 2002 to ensure a new Director is elected before the current Director's contract expires at the end of March 2002.
• The CoP authorized the IAI Executive Directorate to distribute the Panama Declaration in Spanish, English, French, and Portuguese by August 17, 2001, with a deadline for official approval by the parties set for September 30, 2001.
• The CoP approved several administrative and financial documents, including the IAI Financial Statement and Audit Report for Fiscal Year 1999/2000, the Basic Budget Request for Fiscal Year 2001/2002, and the Annual Program for 2001/2002.
• The CoP approved the Terms of Reference for the IAI External Evaluation Committee, specifying that the evaluation would begin in August 2001 and the final report and recommendations must be completed within one year.
