MEMORANDO DE ENTENDIMIENTO

This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on December 10, 2024, establishes a formal collaboration between the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) and the Center for Climate and Resilience Research (CR2) of the University of Chile. The agreement aims to enhance the exchange of information and scientific cooperation regarding climate science, resilience, and sustainable development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

• The MoU establishes a partnership to improve collaboration and information exchange in specific scientific and environmental fields, including climate science, resilience, biodiversity, ecosystems, and sustainable development within Latin America and the Caribbean.
• The parties have agreed to cooperate across eight primary areas: strengthening collaboration mechanisms between CR2 scientists and IAI networks, exchanging scientific data and research findings, collaborating on science diplomacy and the science-policy interface via the IAI Center for Science Diplomacy, developing joint capacity-building and training programs, facilitating regional communication in Latin America and the Caribbean, pursuing joint funding proposals, publishing research results, and organizing joint outreach activities such as conferences and workshops.
• The agreement follows a decision by the IAI Conference of the Parties during its 32nd meeting in 2024 to invite CR2 to become an Associate of the IAI, as permitted under Article XI of the Agreement for the Creation of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research.
• The MoU remains in effect from the date of signing until terminated by either party via a 90-day written notice or replaced by another agreement. It explicitly states that neither party shall be legally or financially responsible for the activities developed under the memorandum.
