Twelfth Meeting of the IAI Conference of the Parties Action List

This action list documents the decisions and elections made during the Twelfth Meeting of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Conference of the Parties (CoP), held on May 5-6, 2005, in Montreal, Canada.

• The CoP elected a Bureau for its Twelfth Meeting consisting of Michel Béland (Canada) as Chair, Nuris Orihuela (Venezuela) as First Vice-Chair, and Carlos Ereño (Argentina) as Second Vice-Chair.
• The CoP approved the Core Budget Request and Member Country Contributions for Fiscal Year 2005-2006, as well as the IAI Annual Program for 2005-2006.
• Dr. Holm Tiessen was elected as the new IAI Director for a term of three years.
• The CoP adopted new Rules of Procedure (Rules 49, 50, and 64) to standardize the nomination process for the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the conduct of runoff elections in the event of insufficient candidates or tied votes.
• The CoP agreed in principle to two proposals from Mexico: registering the IAI in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and establishing an annual science-policy activity, both contingent on the availability of funds.
