Report of the 2023 Extraordinary meeting of the Conference of the Parties

This briefing document, prepared by the IAI Directorate, presents the report of the 2024 Extraordinary Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP) to the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI). The primary purpose of the meeting, held via videoconference on 26 March 2024, was to review and decide upon a proposal from Panama to host the headquarters of the IAI Directorate.

• The Conference of the Parties approved by consensus the proposal submitted by Panama to host the headquarters of the IAI Directorate. Panama's proposal highlighted benefits such as its "strategic location which would allow for greater connectivity across the region" and "greater engagement with Central America and the Caribbean".
• The IAI Executive Director requested that operations remain active in Uruguay until July 2025 to ensure a smooth transition to Panama, noting that a minimum of one year is typically needed for such a move based on previous experiences moving the headquarters from the US to Brazil and then to Uruguay.
• The 2024 Extraordinary Meeting achieved a quorum with 15 accredited Parties attending: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the United States of America, and Uruguay.
