Report of the 30th meeting of the Conference to the Parties to the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research

The report details the proceedings of the 30th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP-30) to the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), held on 14-15 June 2022 in Montevideo, Uruguay, and via videoconference. • The Conference of the Parties approved the Core Budget for the 2022-2023 fiscal year and the preliminary request for 2023-2025. Due to the economic and social impacts of Covid-19 on member nations, no changes were made to the Core Budget or country contributions for these periods.
• The IAI is initiating the recruitment process for a new Executive Director during the 2022-2023 intersessional period, as the current Executive Director is entering the final year of his second term and is ineligible for further election. It was agreed that candidates must be nationals of IAI Parties.
• The meeting resulted in the adoption of a revised IAI Scientific Agenda and a new Gender, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Policy for IAI Scientific Projects and Capacity Building Activities. A dedicated committee, including representatives from Argentina, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Panama, the United States, and the Belmont Forum, was established to implement this policy.
• The IAI is expanding its capacity-building efforts through the establishment of the IAI Science-Diplomacy Center for the Americas. The Conference of the Parties instructed the Directorate to create a steering committee of Parties, advisory committees, and experts to advise on the center's design and programs.
• The IAI is implementing a Regional Assessment with its Parties to better understand their needs, inform near-term priorities, and facilitate collaboration. The results of this assessment are scheduled to be presented at the 31st meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP-31).
