Report of the 27th meeting of the Conference to the Parties to the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research

The report details the proceedings of the 27th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP-27) to the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), held in Brasilia, Brazil, from June 5-6, 2019. The meeting focused on adopting a new 25-year Strategic Plan, addressing critical financial sustainability issues, and strengthening the integration of transdisciplinary science into public policy across the Americas.

This includes revising the IAI Scientific Agenda to move beyond a discipline-based structure and implementing a Science and Technology Policy (STeP) Fellowships Program to place early-career scientists in government offices.
• To improve funding and research coordination, the IAI is pursuing a strategic partnership with the Belmont Forum to establish a flexible funding mechanism for the Americas. Additionally, the CoP agreed to establish a task force to engage directly with national funding agencies to secure support for IAI science and capacity-building programs.
• The IAI is expanding its regional network by inviting the Alexander von Humboldt Biological Resources Research Institute in Colombia and the Estación Científica COIBA AIP in Panama to become Associates of the Institute.
• The IAI has enhanced its data accessibility by migrating its website to an open-source content management system and hosting its open data platform under the University of Harvard's Dataverse system. It is also collaborating on a South-South regional approach to open data and open science with CODATA, the International Council for Science, and the African Academy of Science.
