IAI SAC Member nominations requested 2017

The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) is seeking nominations for two SAC member vacancies to be filled at the June 2017 Conference of the Parties in Bogotá, Colombia, with a total of four new members to be elected. The SAC is prioritizing candidates from underrepresented regions, specifically Central America and the Caribbean, and is seeking expertise in Oceanography, Ecosystem services, Climatology, and Social sciences.

• Two SAC member terms expire in June 2017, requiring two nominations from the Parties. One vacancy is held by Carlos Alfredo Joly, who is eligible for re-election, while a second nomination is needed for the other vacancy. Additionally, SAC members will nominate candidates to reach a total of four new members for election at the June 2017 Conference of the Parties in Bogotá, Colombia.
• The SAC seeks candidates with high academic and research excellence, a Doctorate or equivalent, and an extensive publication record. Nominees must be multidisciplinary, experienced in managing international scientific projects relevant to IAI strategic areas, and possess an understanding of the science policies and the social, economic, and ecological realities of the Americas. The committee prioritizes geographic, gender, and ethnic balance, specifically noting that Central America and the Caribbean are currently underrepresented.
• For the 2017 nominations, the SAC specifically recommends expertise in four areas to complement existing membership: Oceanography, Ecosystem services, Climatology (including modeling, observation, and impact assessments), and Social sciences (including social health, economy, and urbanism).
