This document consists of two statements dated March 28, 2025, regarding the renewal and nomination of members for the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Science and Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI). • The Science and Policy Advisory Committee (SPAC) notes that the mandates of two members designated by the Parties, Margot Hurlbert and Nathalie Flores, as well as two members designated by the SPAC, Carol Franco and Amparo Martínez Arroyo, will expire in May 2025. The SPAC recommends the renewal of mandates for Dr. Hurlbert, Dr. Martínez Arroyo, and Dr. Franco.
• Nominations for new candidates for both the SAC and SPAC must be submitted by April 28, 2025, accompanied by a brief curriculum vitae sent to Soledad Noya. Elections are scheduled for the second day of the 33rd Conference of the Parties (CoP-33) in Asunción, Paraguay, on May 29 and 30, 2025, using a hybrid format.
• Both committees seek to address a current underrepresentation of Central America and the Caribbean in their compositions. Candidates must be internationally recognized for their scientific work in the Americas, hold a PhD or equivalent, and possess experience in international scientific project management. Specifically, both committees are seeking experts in terrestrial ecosystems for natural sciences and experts in economics or development studies for social sciences.
