• Regarding international agencies, the IAI found no possibility of cooperation agreements with the European Commission. However, it is pursuing contacts with governmental authorities in Spain and Portugal, and intends to use the International Group of Funding Agencies for Global Change Research (IGFA) to maintain links with European Union countries and Japanese funding agencies.
• The IAI successfully collaborated with the NOAA US Office of Global Programs and several other entities to hold a regional course on climate variability and extreme events in San José, Costa Rica, from February 12-23, 2001. This event demonstrated the IAI's capacity to generate regional training initiatives.
