Report of the IAI Directorate to the 19th Meeting of the Executive Council and the 11th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties

• Three IAI Summer Institutes were conducted in 2003: one on Land Cover-Land Use Change in the Amazonian Region (Brazil), one on Vulnerability associated with Climate Change and Climate Variability in Central America and the Caribbean (Dominican Republic), and one on Warming and Global Climate Changes (Brazil).
• The IAI is upgrading its Data and Information System (DIS) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) to be more user-friendly and integrate with external systems such as the National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII) and the Large Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia (LBA-DIS).
• The IAI closed the 2003/04 fiscal year with a positive cash flow balance of $50,000 and savings of $100,000 in core budget expenses, having collected 94% of expected contributions.
• Local administrative staff at the IAI experienced a significant decline in morale and wages after a new contracting company offered salaries approximately 40% lower than previous levels, along with reduced social benefits.
