Informe de la 11a Reunión de la Conferencia de las Partes (CoP) del IAI Buenos Aires, Argentina 30 de junio al 02 de julio de 2004

The report documents the 11th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from June 30 to July 2, 2004. The meeting focused on administrative transitions, including the search for a new Executive Director, the approval of the 2004/2005 budget and annual program, and the election of members for the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) and the Executive Council (CE).

• The CoP approved the Alternative Basic Budget Request for the 2004/2005 fiscal year, which set a total fund requirement of US$ 945,000. • The IAI identified research priorities from 10 countries (Canada, Chile, Cuba, Colombia, Ecuador, United States, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Uruguay). The most prioritized area was 'Tema I' of the Scientific Agenda, specifically focusing on scenarios, impacts, vulnerability, and adaptation.
• The CoP elected five scientists to the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC): Walter Fernández Rojas, Luiz Fernando L. Legey, Rana A. Fine, Vicente R. Barros, and René Pablo Capote López. Additionally, nine countries were elected to the Executive Council (CE) for the period July 2004 to June 2006: Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, USA, Jamaica, Mexico, and Venezuela.
• The IAI is implementing capacity-building institutes, which are typically two-week courses. In 2003, institutes were held on Climate Vulnerability, LUCC/Amazon Region, and Global Warming/Climate Change. Planned institutes for 2005 include 'Climate and Health' in Jamaica and 'Vulnerability Associated with Climate Variability and Change in South America' in Paraguay.
