Minutas de la Decimaoctava Reunión del Consejo Ejecutivo del IAI

Minutes from the 18th Meeting of the Executive Council (EC) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), held on December 4-5, 2003, in San José, Costa Rica. The meeting focused on the institute's financial instability due to member state arrears, the approval of scientific grants, and strategic planning for the upcoming 10th anniversary of the Montevideo Agreement.

These programs aimed to promote the science-policy interface and multidisciplinary collaboration.
• The Executive Council approved a new document defining the functions of the EC Steering Committee, focusing on three central axes: scientific and technological policy, financial policy, and institutional development.
• The IAI is seeking to reduce the frequency of its Conference of the Parties (CoP) and Executive Council (EC) meetings to save costs and resources. An analysis suggests this would require amending the Agreement for the Creation of the IAI.
• The IAI reported difficulties with specific CRN projects: CRN-038 is recommended for termination due to the resignation of all involved scientists; CRN-062 faces coordination delays and the withdrawal of Chilean Co-PIs; and CRN-031 required a new PI following the death of Dr. Eduardo Franco.
