Acta de la Decimoquinta ReuniÛn del Consejo Ejecutivo del IAI (CE)

The document contains the minutes of the 15th Meeting of the Executive Council (EC) of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), held on June 25-26, 2002, in São José dos Campos, Brazil. The meeting focused on financial management, the selection of a new Executive Director, the evaluation of scientific programs such as the Cooperative Research Network (CRN), and the restructuring of the institute's internal working groups and data systems.

• The IAI's Data and Information Systems (DIS) were found to be largely ineffective, with pilot nodes in Costa Rica and Uruguay being closed because only the node in Brazil remained active. The existing equipment was described as completely obsolete, and there was a lack of participation from the scientific community in providing metadata.
• The IAI established an External Evaluation Committee (ERC) consisting of 8 members to assess institutional and programmatic development. The committee's composition was designed for balance in terms of geography (North America, Central America and the Caribbean, and South America), gender, and professional experience.
• The IAI's Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) recommended a revision of the IAI Scientific Agenda, as it had only been adjusted once since 1997. The SAC also emphasized the need to increase contributions to the Small Grants Program and to use CRN reports as marketing material to promote the institute.
