Minutes of the Fifteenth Meeting of the IAI Executive Council (EC)

• The IAI established an External Review Committee (ERC) consisting of 8 members from North America, Central America, the Caribbean, and South America. The committee is tasked with reviewing institutional development (such as vision, mission, and funding base) and programmatic development (such as scientific productivity and project effectiveness).
• The Executive Council decided to close the Data Policy and Information System (DIS) nodes in Uruguay and Costa Rica, maintaining only the node in Brazil, which contains approximately 120 metadata pointers to IAI program information.
• The EC rejected a proposal by the Financial and Administration Policy Working Group (FAWG) to forgive outstanding core budget balances for countries in arrears if they paid for the current and two previous fiscal years by June 30, 2003. The decision was postponed for further study and discussion with the future IAI Director.
• The EC approved the nomination of five new members for the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC): Silvia L. Garzoli, Maria Assunáo Dias, and Michael Brklacich (nominated by the SAC); Alejandro Castellanos (nominated by the CoP); and Gary Wynn Yohe (nominated by IAI Associates).
• The IAI Interim Director, John Stewart, recommended the dissolution of working groups that have completed their missions to reduce the 'cumbersome and repetitive' reporting system and the expense of holding meetings between EC sessions.
