PROPUESTA DE CORE BUDGET PARA EL AÑO FISCAL 2001/2002

This document presents the proposed core budget for the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) for the 2001/2002 fiscal year, including a review of the 2000/2001 expenditures and cash flow projections based on member country contributions.

• The proposed Core Budget for the 2001/2002 fiscal year is US$ 936,353, which is US$ 5,351 higher than the amount previously discussed at EC-XI in Mérida. This budget is divided into three categories: Personnel (Salaries and Benefits), Travel, and Other Costs.
• Projected expenditures for the 2000/2001 fiscal year totaled US$ 824,284, resulting in savings of US$ 78,611 compared to the approved budget. These savings were primarily due to delayed hiring or vacancies in the Financial Officer and Scientific Officer positions, though they were partially offset by US$ 20,000 for 10 new computers and US$ 14,340 for recruitment costs.
• The IAI's cash flow is highly sensitive to member country contributions. While the most optimistic scenario (100% contribution receipt) predicts a positive final cash balance of US$ 337,363 for 2001/2002, a scenario where only 80% of approved contributions are received would result in a cash deficit of US$ 154,353, representing 16.5% of projected expenditures.
• Total approved contributions for the 2001/2002 fiscal year are US$ 940,000. The largest contributor is the United States at US$ 550,000, followed by Canada at US$ 115,000 and Brazil at US$ 80,000.
