Proposed Principles Regarding In-Kind Contributions

• The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) welcomes in-kind contributions and generally views them as donations to science, but they cannot be used instead of annual Core Budget contributions for the 2004/2005 fiscal year or any subsequent years.
• In-kind contributions may be used as an alternative to paying annual Core Budget arrears accumulated before the 2004/2005 fiscal year, provided they offset budgeted expenses of the IAI Directorate from 2004/2005 onwards and receive pre-approval from the Executive Council.
• Proposals for in-kind contributions must be submitted to the IAI Director and include a description of the activity and timetable, the providing agency or organization, an estimated value with supporting documentation, and the specific fiscal year arrears to be offset. The IAI Director then verifies eligibility against budgeted activities before forwarding the request to the Executive Council.
