The Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI) Annual Program for July 2005 to June 2006 outlines institutional, scientific, and capacity-building activities aimed at promoting multidisciplinary research and collaboration on global change.

• The IAI's institutional governance for the 2005/2006 period includes decision meetings by the Executive Committee (EC) and Committee of Participants (CoP) in November/December 2005 and June/July 2006 to provide guidance on programmatic activities and budget recommendations. • Capacity building efforts include several specialized institutes: a Global Environmental Change Institute on vulnerability associated with climate change and climate variability at the University of West Indies in Jamaica (October/November 2005), an Institute on Climate and Global Health in Latin America in Conception, Paraguay (September/October 2005), and an Institute on Integrated Resource Management in the Tropics in Goettingen, Germany (September 2005).
• The IAI's Data and Information System (DIS) underwent a full upgrade at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), completed in February 2005. Ongoing efforts include integrating DIS metadata with NASA's Global Change Master Directory (GCMD) and the development of a clear Data Policy, with a first draft completed in early 2005.
• Outreach and communication goals include the publication of three newsletters per year, the 2004/2005 Annual Report by December 2005, and a rapid assessment book titled "Bridging the gap between science and decision makers, integrating lessons from 10 years of IAI science projects," scheduled for publication at the end of 2006.
