Recomendaciones para la conservación de los estuarios y restauración de los manglares de Centroamérica y Sudamérica

This white paper, based on a 2024 scientific diplomacy workshop in Panama, outlines the critical role of estuaries and mangroves in Central and South America for biodiversity, climate regulation, and coastal protection, while providing policy recommendations for their conservation and restoration.

• The document proposes a comprehensive framework for public policy that includes biodiversity monitoring, water management, pollution reduction, protection of vulnerable species, investment in research, public education, inclusive governance, and cross-border cooperation involving local communities.
• Successful sustainable management strategies are exemplified through case studies of the Gulf of Nicoya in Costa Rica and the Coiba Archipelago in Panama.
