Efecto de la precipitación sobre la dinámica hidrológica de las lagunas de la cuenca inferior del río Colorado (periodo 1981-2011)

The study examined shallow lakes in the Colorado River Basin from 2002 to 2012, identifying a correlation between annual precipitation and the area covered by water. Using satellite imagery, the research categorized years as normal (2011), wet (2004), and dry (2008), finding that the number of detected shallow lakes ranged from 5 in dry years to 20 in wet years, with corresponding water areas between 5.8 km2 and 14.54 km2. Water bodies were further divided into three clusters based on size, salinity, and orientation.

• Water bodies were categorized into three distinct groups via a clustering method: the first consisting of permanent bodies larger than 1.5 km2, the second consisting of salt shallow lakes with a North-South Total Maximum Length (TML) orientation, and the third consisting of lakes in the basin's wettest area with an East-West LMT orientation.
