Servicios ecosistémicos y bienestar local: caso de estudio sobre productos de medicina natural en Panguipulli, sur de Chile

This case study analyzes how local communities in southern Chile construct wellbeing through the use of local natural medicine products. It finds that wellbeing is generated both privately through family knowledge transmission and publicly through the Inter-Cultural Health Program. The research identifies the Inter-Cultural Health Program, the Inter-Cultural Health Table, cultural agents, and the family unit as key satisfiers for various human needs, ranging from participation and understanding to affection and freedom.

• In southern Chile, wellbeing is socially constructed through two distinct types of practices: private daily activities within the family unit, such as the transmission of knowledge regarding the collection and application of medicinal plants, and public community practices, specifically the collection and processing initiatives of the Inter-Cultural Health Program used to replenish medicine stocks.
• The study identifies specific 'satisfiers' linked to different human needs: the Inter-Cultural Health Program acts synergistically across various needs; the Inter-Cultural Health Table relates specifically to participation and understanding; and cultural agents and the family unit are linked to needs such as freedom, leisure, and affection.
