Barriers and Solutions to Conducting Large International Interdisciplinary Research Projects

A study of an NSF-PIRE research project involving team members in Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico identified five primary barriers to international interdisciplinary research: integration, language, fieldwork logistics, personnel and relationships, and time commitment.

• The authors note that while there is extensive literature on the challenges of interdisciplinary research, there is almost no existing research specifically focused on teams that are both international and interdisciplinary.
