¿Conviene seguir fomentando las plantaciones forestales en el norte de la Patagonia argentina? ¿Dónde, para qué, a quién le conviene?

This research paper examines the factors that should be considered when deciding whether to promote forest plantations in northwestern Patagonia and discusses how the Science and Technology system (SCyT) can support decision-making within a Territorial Planning framework.

• The author argues that the Science and Technology system (SCyT) can assist in decision-making regarding forest plantations in Patagonia by focusing on three specific areas: recognizing the human and biophysical heterogeneity of the territorial system, defining the suitability of different territorial units for forestry while evaluating environmental, social, and economic impacts, and defining the 'problem' based on the differing values of various actors.
• The SCyT can contribute to the decision-making process for forestry activities in Patagonia through the construction of cause-and-effect 'trees' and the analysis of changes in the provision of Ecosystem Services (SE) and the identification of who benefits from them.
