Diagnóstico del sistema territorial

This document describes a shift in the process of rural territorial planning (OTR), moving from the costly generation of original spatial information to the strategic selection and integration of existing geoinformatic data to characterize the biophysical, social, and productive environments of territories in Argentina.

• Rural territorial planning (OTR) relies on determining the capacity of a geographic space to provide social, productive, and ecosystem services. Previously, this required the expensive creation of original spatially explicit information maps using specific tools.
• The development and popularization of geoinformatic and information tools have simplified the management and facilitated the free access and exchange of spatial data. Consequently, efficient OTR planning now prioritizes the orderly search, creative selection, and integration of basic maps and tools over the creation of original data.
• The objective of this chapter is to provide those responsible for the planning and execution of OTR in Argentina with relevant information sources for characterizing the productive, social, and biophysical environment of the territory, along with tools for efficient management.
