Bringing EVs to Latine Communities Thru Direct Engagement and Education

A pilot project by GreenLatinos and partners provided bilingual EV education to 600 households in Maryland, finding that while 76% of surveyed participants are interested in EVs, significant gaps remain in the understanding of tax incentives and literacy-accessible outreach.

• A pilot engagement project funded by the GM Climate Equity Fund provided bilingual EV education to 600 households across two Maryland apartment complexes—Glenmont Forest Apartments (52.5% Latino population) and Sheridan Apartments (56.8% Latino population)—resulting in a contact list of 116 individuals interested in EV purchases.
• Survey results from 100 participants indicate a high level of interest in electric vehicles, with 76% expressing potential interest in purchasing one.
• There is significant uncertainty regarding the role of financial incentives in EV adoption; while 38% of surveyed participants said tax incentives influence their decision-making, 30% were unsure if such incentives were a factor.
• The project encountered significant barriers related to participant literacy, which rendered the original written survey design unusable and required the team to switch to verbal administration of questions.
