Celebrating Freedom While Demanding Equity and Dismantling Racism: A GreenLatinos Statement Regarding Juneteenth

GreenLatinos uses the occasion of Juneteenth to highlight the link between systemic racism and environmental injustice, asserting that fossil fuel-based energy sources cause disproportionate harm to Black and Brown communities.

• The organization argues that while explicit discrimination may be outlawed, systemic inequities continue to marginalize communities of color in the United States.
• The climate crisis and the use of fossil fuels are cited as primary examples of how systems of oppression cause disproportionate harm to Black and Brown communities.
• GreenLatinos commits to dismantling racism and supporting those on the frontlines of the fight against environmental injustice to achieve environmental liberation.
