WISP flyer

The Western Cape Industrial Symbiosis Programme (WISP) is a free facilitation service delivered by GreenCape and initiated by the Western Cape Government to enhance business profitability and sustainability through the exchange of unused or residual resources between companies.

• WISP employs an Industrial Symbiosis (IS) approach, which is a resource efficiency method where one company's unused or residual resources—including materials, energy, water, assets, logistics, and expert knowledge—are utilized by another company to create economic, social, and environmental benefits.
• The programme provides free membership to all companies and organisations regardless of their size, turnover, or sector. It specifically aims to support SMEs that may lack the dedicated expertise or time required to identify and implement energy, waste, and resource efficient practices.
• WISP aims to increase business outcomes such as profits, sales, new business, jobs, asset utilisation, innovation, inward investment, learning, and knowledge transfer, while simultaneously reducing CO2 emissions, landfill costs, the use of virgin resources, industrial water usage, hazardous waste, pollution, and transport.
