Atlantis Greentech Special Economic Zone

The Atlantis Greentech Special Economic Zone (ASEZ) is a proposed hub in the Western Cape, South Africa, designed to cluster green technology industries. Building on a manufacturing hub established in 2011, the zone seeks formal SEZ status to provide investors with preferential corporate tax, employment tax incentives, and municipal subsidies. The site is positioned to leverage South Africa's Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP) and provides proximity to Cape Town and Saldanha port.

• The City of Cape Town established a greentech manufacturing hub in Atlantis in 2011 to support the Department of Energy’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP). This hub has already secured four operational investors: Gestamp Renewable Industries (wind towers, R300m investment), Resolux (wind turbine internals, R25m), Kaytech expansion (geotextiles, R130m), and Skyward Windows expansion (double glazing, R50m).
• The Western Cape Provincial Government has applied to the South African Department of Trade and Industry (dti) to have the entire Atlantis Industrial area declared a Special Greentech Economic Zone, with a decision expected in 2016.
• Investors in the ASEZ can access several financial and regulatory incentives, including a preferential 15% Corporate Tax, Employment Tax Incentives, and Customs Controlled Area Tax Relief. Additionally, the City of Cape Town offers municipal electricity tariff subsidies, fee exemptions for land use and building plan applications, and fast-tracked development approvals.
• The ASEZ is strategically located 40km from Cape Town and 105km from Saldanha port, with access to the N1, N2, and N7 national road networks. It targets a broad range of green technologies, including wind turbines, solar panels, insulation, biofuels, electric vehicles, materials recycling, and green building materials.
