Atlantis Greentech Special Economic Zone

The Atlantis Greentech Special Economic Zone (ASEZ) is a proposed industrial hub in Atlantis, South Africa, designed to attract green technology and renewable energy manufacturing. Established as a hub in 2011, it already hosts investors like Gestamp Renewable Industries and Resolux. The zone offers significant incentives, including a 15% preferential corporate tax, municipal electricity subsidies, and fast-tracked development approvals, leveraging its proximity to Cape Town and Saldanha port.

• The City of Cape Town established a greentech manufacturing hub in Atlantis in 2011 to support the Department of Energy’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme (REIPPP). This hub has already secured four operational greentech investors: Gestamp Renewable Industries (wind towers, R300m investment), Resolux (wind turbine internals, R25m), Kaytech expansion (geotextiles, R130m), and Skyward Windows expansion (double glazing, R50m).
• The Western Cape Provincial Government has applied to have the entire Atlantis Industrial area declared a Special Greentech Economic Zone (ASEZ), with a decision from the South African Department of Trade and Industry (dti) expected in 2016. The zone is located on the West Coast of South Africa, 40km from Cape Town and 105km from Saldanha port.
• The ASEZ offers several financial and regulatory incentives to attract investors, including a preferential 15% Corporate Tax, Employment Tax Incentives, and Customs Controlled Area Tax Relief. Additionally, the City of Cape Town provides a municipal electricity tariff subsidy, fee exemptions for land use and building plan applications, and fast-tracked development approvals.
