Risk, Resilience and Regulatory Lab (R3LAB)

The Risk, Resilience and Regulatory Lab (R3LAB) is a collaborative platform for African insurance regulators aimed at improving supervisory skills and fostering innovation. It provides capacity-building programs, peer exchange, and learning toolkits to address regulatory gaps. A key output includes 'insurance innovation portraits' for eight countries, which identify barriers to innovation and propose action plans based on six assessment areas, including infrastructure, finance, and the regulatory environment.

• R3LAB serves as a collaborative platform for African insurance regulators to improve their regulatory environment through capacity-building, peer-to-peer exchange, and the use of learning toolkits and resource centres.
• The project aims to enhance the technical capacity of supervisory staff, promote the adoption of proportionate regulatory tools, and support initiatives related to green finance, sustainability, and innovation.
• The initiative has produced eight 'insurance innovation portraits' that analyze the enabling environment across six areas: underlying infrastructure, access to talent, access to finance, market engagement enablers, the regulatory environment, and supervisory support.
