MODERN SLAVERY POLICY

The Modern Slavery Policy of FSD Africa, effective June 2024, establishes a zero-tolerance stance against modern slavery within its business operations and supply chains. The policy defines modern slavery as the deprivation of freedom for commercial gain and outlines mitigation measures, reporting mechanisms, and the responsibilities of staff, management, and the Board to ensure ethical business dealings.

• FSD Africa maintains a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, which it defines as "depriving a person of freedom for commercial gain in violation of fundamental human rights." This includes trafficking persons, slavery, servitude, and forced and compulsory labour, though it explicitly excludes substandard working conditions or underpayment of workers.
• To mitigate the risk of modern slavery, FSD Africa implements several measures: conducting robust due diligence for third parties (such as grantees and consultants), incorporating risk assessments into daily operations, providing training and awareness sessions, and prohibiting modern slavery practices in all agreements and contracts.
• The policy mandates specific governance and reporting requirements, including an annual public statement by the Board outlining efforts to combat modern slavery in the supply chain. Personnel can report suspicions via the Director of Corporate Services or a 24/7 whistleblower hotline available in Swahili and English.
• The policy applies to all staff of FSD Africa and its subsidiary, FSD Africa (Investments) Ltd, as well as associated personnel such as partners, consultants, agents, vendors, and contractors. Non-compliance by employees may lead to disciplinary action up to dismissal, while third-party breaches may result in the termination of the relationship.
