FSD Africa Impact How BimaLab shaped MotiSure’s bodaboda riders’ insurance product

This case study describes how the FSD Africa-supported BimaLab insurtech accelerator helped MotiSure, a Kenyan insurtech, develop and scale an insurance product for bodaboda (motorcycle taxi) riders. Through BimaLab's support in customer profiling and ecosystem understanding, MotiSure expanded its coverage options and grew its customer base from 4,600 to over 12,000 riders.

• MotiSure provides affordable insurance for bodaboda riders starting at Sh10 (USD 0.06) per day. The coverage includes medical expenses, disability, death, repairs, and protection against loss of income, with additional products available for goods and passengers.
• Participation in the BimaLab accelerator programme enabled MotiSure to triple its customer base from 4,600 to over 12,000 bodaboda customers, maintaining a retention rate of approximately 85%.
• BimaLab supported MotiSure's development by providing deeper customer profiling to assess real demand and broadening the founder's understanding of the Kenyan microinsurance landscape and ecosystem.
