Technical Support for the WAEMU Electronic Trading Platform (ETP)

FSD Africa is providing technical support to UMOA-Titres (UT) to implement an Electronic Trading Platform (ETP) for the WAEMU region to enhance the secondary trading market for debt securities.

• FSD Africa and UMOA-Titres (UT) have appointed a technical expert to implement an Electronic Trading Platform (ETP) for the eight countries of the WAEMU region. The goal of the ETP is to increase efficiency, flexibility, and the investor base within the secondary trading market for debt securities.
• The implementation of the ETP is expected to improve market liquidity and trading efficiency, which should lower the cost of capital for the private sector and governments in the WAEMU region. Additionally, it aims to increase market confidence and expand the investor base beyond banks.
• Project milestones include the onboarding of a Programme Manager in March 2022 to lead implementation and the ongoing development of a draft Business Requirement Document (BRD) for the platform.
