Technical Support for the WAEMU Electronic Trading Platform (ETP)

FSD Africa is collaborating with UMOA-Titres to implement an Electronic Trading Platform (ETP) for the WAEMU region to enhance the secondary trading market for debt securities. The initiative aims to increase market liquidity, reduce capital costs for governments and the private sector, and broaden the investor base beyond banks. As of October 2022, a Programme Manager was onboarded in March 2022 and the development of a draft Business Requirement Document (BRD) is underway.

• The implementation of the Electronic Trading Platform (ETP) is intended to increase trading efficiency and market liquidity, which is expected to lower the cost of capital for both the private sector and governments within the WAEMU region.
• The ETP aims to expand the investor base for the secondary debt securities market beyond commercial banks and improve overall market confidence.
• Project progress as of October 2022 includes the appointment of a Programme Manager in March 2022 and the ongoing creation of a draft Business Requirement Document (BRD).
