Project Title Regulatory and Innovation Sandbox Implementation

• FSD Africa is partnering with the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to implement a regulatory innovation sandbox designed to enable the testing of solutions for population segments that are currently underserved. This project, valued at £200,000 andSS, is scheduled for implementation from 2022 to 2024 and follows a 2021 feasibility assessment conducted by the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance.
• The second phase of the project focuses on providing capacity building and technical assistance to the Bank of Ghana as it engages industry stakeholders and rolls out the sandbox. The intended results include identifying and addressing regulatory barriers, increasing the number of fintechs testing and scaling innovations, training bank staff, generating insights for regulatory reforms, and reducing costs for innovators to formalise their work.
• Current progress on the project includes the completion of the Phase I feasibility and design assessment, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between FSD Africa and the Bank of Ghana, and the near-finalisation of the scope of work for technical assistance support.
