Financial Inclusion Using Agency Banking Project

The Financial Inclusion Using Agency Banking Project (2019-2022) in the DRC aimed to expand access to savings and loan products for rural and peri-urban populations. As of May 2022, the project had deployed 2,982 agents, opened 155,008 savings accounts, and disbursed over $1 million in loans to underserved MSMEs.

• The project aimed to scale Equity BCDC's agency banking model to provide savings and loan products and build capacity for women, youth, farmers, and MSMEs in rural and peri-urban areas of the DRC, while demonstrating the business case for serving underserved customers.
• As of May 2022, the project achieved several of its target results: 2,982 agents were deployed, trained, and equipped (against a target of 3,317), and 155,008 savings accounts were opened for underserved populations (against a target of 1,000,000).
• By May 2022, the project had disbursed over $1 million in loans to underserved or unserved MSMEs and created financial awareness among 8,232,834 unbanked farmers, MSMEs, women, and youth.
