Raising Investment Capital for Greenfield Infrastructure Projects with InfraCredit

A case study detailing a collaboration between FSD Africa and Infrastructure Credit Guarantee Company Limited (InfraCredit) to provide local funding for DarwayCoast, a solar power company in Southern Nigeria.

• A partnership between FSD Africa and Infrastructure Credit Guarantee Company Limited (InfraCredit) facilitated 1.6 billion Naira in local funding for DarwayCoast to scale solar power mini-grids in Southern Nigeria. By September 2023, the project aimed to connect 7,711 households and produce 541.76 kW of solar energy across six sites located in Abia State and Rivers State.
• The project has generated employment for 227 people, consisting of 196 males and 31 females. InfraCredit utilizes a gender action plan and impact assessment framework to promote gender balance and inclusion in project design, while maintaining an internal gender ratio of 48% women.
• FSD Africa provides technical support to help greenfield infrastructure projects overcome assessment challenges and meet InfraCredit's due diligence criteria. This credit guarantee model is being considered for replication across Africa, with a similar initiative currently developing in East Africa supported by InfraCredit's technical assistance.
