The New York Declaration on Forests (NYDF) is a collective commitment to slow, reduce, and reverse global deforestation. • Forests are critical for the planet, supporting 80% of terrestrial biodiversity and playing a key role in climate preservation through carbon sequestration and storage. • Achieving the objectives of the declaration could result in more than 7 billion tonnes (CO2e) of economically viable mitigation per year by 2030. Forest preservation is identified as one of the most cost-effective climate solutions to limit global warming to 1.5°C.
