PROGRESO EN LA DECLARACIÓN DE NUEVA YORK SOBRE LOS BOSQUES

• The report identifies six core strategies for governments to achieve NYDF 2030 goals: strengthening forest and land-use governance; protecting the land rights of indigenous peoples and local communities (IPLCs); aligning incentives with mitigation goals; promoting multi-stakeholder jurisdictional approaches; ensuring robust monitoring and accounting; and expanding demand-side measures in countries importing high-risk commodities.
• Securing land tenure for indigenous peoples and local communities is presented as a central mitigation strategy. The report recommends prioritizing the titling of ancestral lands and enforcing Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) to protect forest areas and carbon sequestration.
• Importing countries are urged to take responsibility for their global forest footprints by restricting the entry of products linked to deforestation, implementing green public procurement policies, and aligning free trade agreements with the Paris Agreement through binding provisions on imported emissions.
