Progrès de la Déclaration de New York sur les forêts Pour Protéger et Restaurer les Forêts

This executive summary evaluates the progress of the New York Declaration on Forests (NYDF) five years after its 2014 inception. Furthermore, a case study in the Mekong region showed that most forest cover increase since 2010 occurred on non-forest lands rather than within forests.
• Corporate commitments to eliminate deforestation from supply chains have stagnated, and only 8 percent of companies with such commitments apply them to all operations and supply chains.
• Poverty and population growth drive forest loss, particularly in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where shifting agriculture accounts for 70 percent of total forest cover loss.
• Financial investment in forests is insufficient. Green finance for forests is below 22 billion USD, and investments to end tropical deforestation (3.2 billion USD) represent less than 1.5 percent of the 256 billion USD committed by multilateral institutions and developed countries for climate change mitigation since 2010.
• Indonesia saw a significant decrease in primary forest loss in 2017 and 2018, dropping more than 30 percent compared to the 2001-2016 average, though recent fires indicate a need for intensified efforts.
