The New York Declaration on Forests

The New York Declaration on Forests (NYDF) is a multi-stakeholder framework adopted in 2014 and refreshed in 2021 to protect and restore global forests. Its key targets include halting natural forest loss by 2030 and restoring 350 million hectares of degraded land, which could mitigate over 7 billion tons of CO2e annually. The document identifies agricultural commodities (soy, palm oil, beef, and paper) as the cause of roughly half of global deforestation and emphasizes the critical role of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities in forest protection.
