Nous dénonçons le meurtre de Jehry Rivera Rivera au Costa Rica

The document condemns the February 24, 2020, murder of Jehry Rivera Rivera, a Naso Bröran leader in Costa Rica who opposed land usurpation and extractive projects like the El Diquis hydroelectric dam. It highlights a pattern of violence, including the 2019 murder of Sergio Rojas Ortiz, and criticizes the Costa Rican government for failing to respond to alerts about armed intrusions or implement Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) precautionary measures for the Térraba and Salitre territories.

• Jehry Rivera Rivera, a leader of the Naso Bröran community, was murdered on February 24, 2020, after defending indigenous autonomy against land usurpers and extractive projects, specifically the "El Diquis" hydroelectric dam project.
• The Costa Rican government failed to provide a satisfactory response to alerts regarding armed non-indigenous intrusions in the Térraba indigenous lands and did not apply the precautionary measures established by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) on April 30, 2015, for the protection of the Térraba and Salitre territories.
• The murder of Jehry Rivera follows the March 18, 2019, murder of Sergio Rojas Ortiz, illustrating a broader trend of attacks and impunity facing indigenous peoples across Costa Rica.
