Preocupación por la seguridad del testigo de la muerte de Berta Cáceres

Friends of the Earth International calls for the safety of Gustavo Castro Soto and a transparent investigation into the murder of Berta Cáceres, an indigenous leader who opposed hydroelectric projects in Honduras.

• Berta Cáceres, a co-founder of the Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras (COPINH) in 1993, led environmental protests against hydroelectric projects in western Honduras, arguing they threatened the natural and cultural heritage of the Lenca people.
• Gustavo Castro Soto, coordinator of Otros Mundos Chiapas / Friends of the Earth Mexico, was in La Esperanza, Intibucá, conducting alternative energy analysis workshops with COPINH members at the time of the events.
• International demonstrations are being held, starting at the Honduran Embassy in Mexico City and continuing globally, to demand the clarification of Berta Cáceres' crime and the safe return of Gustavo Castro Soto.
