Solidarity Statement with victims of Rana Plaza and to the women workers marching on this Global Day of Feminist Action

A solidarity statement by Friends of the Earth International issued on April 24, 2015, marking the second anniversary of the Rana Plaza collapse and participating in the World March of Women's 4th International Action to denounce economic violence against women and corporate power.

• The Rana Plaza complex in Dhaka, Bangladesh, which produced clothing for international brands, collapsed two years prior to the statement, resulting in over one thousand deaths among women workers and leaving hundreds more severely injured.
• Women environmental defenders—including peasant leaders, indigenous women protecting territories from oil, gas, mineral extraction, monoculture plantations, and hydroelectric dams, and urban workers—face heightened risks of violence, sexual harassment, rape, and exclusion while opposing a corporate-driven political-economic system.
• Friends of the Earth International, in alliance with the World March of Women, advocates for the dismantling of corporate power and seeks legal justice for transnational corporations regarding environmental crimes and human rights abuses.
