The EU and the corporate impunity nexus

This report argues that European transnational corporations frequently commit human rights and environmental violations globally while avoiding accountability, a process facilitated by EU trade, investment, and carbon permit policies that outsource negative impacts to the Global South.

• European transnational corporations are involved in environmental and human rights violations worldwide and generally avoid accountability, despite claims from European business leaders and politicians regarding their leadership in corporate responsibility.
• EU policies, specifically the focus on carbon permit trading and the pursuit of investment and trade agreements, facilitate or encourage a pattern where European multinationals outsource the most severe social and environmental impacts of their resource consumption to the Global South.
